“How Stable is the US Democracy?”

Questions for Political Scientist Andrew Wolff from Dickinson College

Portrait von Andy Wolff

The election results in some US states are close, yet still clear. Joe Biden received a substantial majority of electoral votes. Yet, the incumbent president still disparages the electoral process and its outcome as a huge scam and has left no stone unturned to erode structures that have been part of the democratic identity of the United States since the US constitution was written in 1787.

What are the implications for governmental institutions? How deep is the division of the US society? And how will the German-American and European-American relationships develop over the next years; relationships that have not been worse than today since World War II? We asked Andrew Wolff, Professor of Political Science at Dickinson College. He is a recognized expert for transatlantic relations and security policy in Europe. He currently lives in Italy with a research assignment at the University of Bologna.
