International Doctoral Education Action


The program BremenIDEA is promoted by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). From 2015 to 2019 numerous funding opportunities will be announced to support the mobility of doctoral candidates. 

Doctoral researchers of the University of Bremen can receive funding for stays up to 3 months at international research institutions. Professors of the university of Bremen can invite Master students for internships or short stays to get to know prospective doctoral candidates personally.

BremenIDEA is a joint project of the Graduate Centre (ProUB) and the International Office of the University of Bremen.

BremenIDEA out - Research stays at international institutions

Doctoral researchers of the University of Bremen can receive funding for stays up to 3 months at international research institutions. Successful applicants will receive funding in accordance with the IPID4all allowances depending on the country of destination and the duration of the stay.

BremenIDEA in – Short term stays for prospective doctoral candidates

Professors of the University of Bremen may apply for funding to invite prospective doctoral candidates from abroad for a one to two week stay in Bremen. During the stay, potential supervisors may receive a comprehensive personal impression of the international graduates and explore possible research topics for their doctoral thesis. Prospective doctoral researchers may get to know the University and the city of Bremen and have an insight into their future work environment.

BremenIDEA student – Scientific internships for master students from abroad

Professors of the University of Bremen may apply for funding to invite a master student from abroad for a scientific internship (one to three months). This funding line is an opportunity for the University to attract highly qualified master students for a doctorate in Bremen. During the stay, potential supervisors may receive a comprehensive personal impression of the international graduates and explore possible research topics for their doctoral thesis. To get to know the University and the city of Bremen, a local doctoral researcher should support the master student during his/her stay and give insight into the work environment.
