Dr. Christina C. Roggatz

Group leader

I am fascinated by how environmental factors dynamically alter the chemical communication and interactions between species. Whether it’s chemical analysis, computational chemistry, or biological growth and behavioral tests - methodologically, my team and I utilize everything that provides us with comprehensive answers across different spatial and temporal scales. As a trained (marine) biologist with a Ph.D. in chemistry, I prefer to work in an interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary manner.

Lena Kathrin Keller

Technical Assistant

I support the working group in my role as a technical assistant. My responsibilities include culturing benthic diatoms, preparing samples for 16S sequencing, and ensuring laboratory hygiene and safety.

Anja looks friendly into the camera.

Anja Ruhl

PhD Student

As part of the DIALMOD project, I am investigating the interactions between benthic diatoms and the bacteria associated with them in biofilms. My focus is on characterizing the biofilms and identifying the substances exchanged during these interactions. A central aspect of this research is how the effects of these substances are influenced by fluctuating environmental factors such as pH.

Janina looks friendly into the camera.

Janina Barkowsky

PhD Student

I began my doctoral thesis in mid-February 2026. I am particularly interested in the fluctuating environmental conditions in benthic diatom biofilms and how these conditions affect sugar-degrading enzymes.

Henrike looks friendly into the camera.

Henrike Welpinghus

Coordinator for Outreach and Participation

As the Outreach and Participation Coordinator for TRR 420 CONCENTRATE, I develop programs that make research on the marine carbon cycle accessible and engaging. I also serve as the point of contact for communication-related inquiries regarding the Collaborative Research Center.

Jonas Fischer

Post-Doc

As a soil ecotoxicologist, I study the interactions between anthropogenic pollutants (e.g., pesticides) and the soil matrix, and how these interactions can negatively affect soil organisms, including through the formation of free radicals or mixture-toxic effects.

Sara looks friendly into the camera.

Sara Sophie Coordes

PhD Student

As part of the ROSCAR project, I have been investigating the effects of abiotic and biotic environmental parameters on copper-induced ROS formation in soil since September 2025.

I conduct soil chemistry research and use ecotoxicological test systems to study the growth, reproduction, and behavior of soil organisms.
