General Assembly
20th General Assembly conducted
On November 26, 2025, our general assembly took place in the Forum am Domshof. This year we were able to welcome around 40 members. A pleasing sign of the sustainable connection of our members with the association. Managing Director Derk Schönfeld guided the program. He provided a detailed review of the past association year and a forecast for 2026.
Solid fiscal year and plans for the 20th anniversary
The good news first: It was a solid fiscal year with healthy reserves! It’s good to know there is a cushion to carry out the planned activities around the association’s 20th anniversary (2006 to 2026). Here is a date to note: On June 13, 2026, OPEN CAMPUS of the University will take place again. On that day the campus will transform into an open, lively place of encounter. Institutes and departments will give exciting behind-the-scenes insights. The Alumni Association will also be represented there with its own stand. Our membership development is also positive: The 5,000th member is approaching. We will welcome him or her at the next general assembly. Promise! Our Instagram and LinkedIn channels are also gaining momentum and reach. This encouraging dynamic is connected with the nearly ten events we were able to carry out in the current financial year, as well as the numerous funding projects that are continuously supported.Funded projects - Universität Bremen
This development strengthens our conviction to continue on our path. In the coming year, we also want to set impulses, enable encounters, and promote projects that reflect the diversity and strength of our alumni community.
Guest lecture and tour of the building
Following the official part of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Michal Kucera, Vice Rector for Research and Transfer at the University of Bremen, delivered inspiring words to the attendees. His lecture “2025: a university between scientific excellence and social responsibility in turbulent times” provided important impulses, especially in light of the University of Bremen and University of Oldenburg’s application in the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments. This topic prompted a stimulating exchange among the members.
Another highlight was the contribution by Thomas Gehrmann from stattreisen Bremen, who offered exciting insights “from above” – from the former executive suite of Bremer Landesbank – into the history and peculiarities of the Domshof. "What was impressive was not only the view of the roofs of 'Bremen’s good living room,' but also the wintry bustle at the Christmas market. The many strings of lights on the stalls created a cozy, home-like atmosphere, so that all members felt comfortable and shared a cup of mulled wine or punch at the end.
