Deutschlandstipendium Scholarships – the Alumni Association Supports Seven Students!

Die Stipendiatinnen und Stipendiaten des Deutschlandstipendiums der Uni Bremen.

On November 22, 2018, the Deutschlandstipendium scholarships of the University of Bremen were presented in the auditorium of the GW1 building – framed by modern jazz music. Over the coming twelve months, a total of 112 students will receive financial support – more than half of them for the first time. One particularity at the University of Bremen is that not only the academic achievements are relevant but also one’s commitment in social and societal contexts. The Deutschlandstipendium scholarships are co-funded by the federal government and businesses, associations, foundations, and private individuals and seek to support successful students. That way, the civil society assumes responsibility for talented young academics and contributes to the future. The scholarship holders receive a stipend of 300 € monthly for one year. Half of the money is paid for by the federal government, the other half is paid for by the sponsors. Many foundations, private individuals, and businesses thus passionately like to support these young academics. The alumni association also is among the sponsors. This year, seven young talents are supported. As a representative of the association, Christoph Sodemann participated in the RoundTable discussion and extended invitations for participating in and connecting with our network. Vice Rector of the university, Prof. Dr. Eva-Maria Feichtner hosted the lively talk with sponsors and scholarship recipients and subsequently opened the stage to the young students, who came up with many new ideas on cooperating as scholarship holders. The ideational accompanying program of the university is meant to be a major part of the cooperation and the support – next to the financial assistance. Activities such as ‘Scholarship of the Scholarship Holders’ and the ‘Regular’s Table’ were introduced. After the festive presentation of the certificates and countless photos to remember this momentous start, the networking commenced. Sponsors and students engaged in dialogue, rounding off the successful event with animated and close conversations.
