The University of Bremen made it its goal to increase the number of double degree programs. In order to do that, special practices are in place to implement joint study programs.

Strategically significant universities are taken into consideration for cooperation, such as members of the Young European Universities Network. Since the winter semester 2018/19, the University of Bremen and the Université de Strasbourg offer a German-French double degree in chemistry. The double degree program is the result of extensive exchange with the grand école in Strasbourg. With the support of the German-French university, fifth-semester chemistry students can study at the École Européenne d’Ingénieurs de Chimie, Polymères et Matériaux (ECPM) for two years and finish their degree in Bremen. After graduating successfully, students in the program receive the Master of Science of the University of Bremen and the Diplôme d’ingénieur of the University of Strasbourg. Representatives of the ECPM visited the University of Bremen in 2018 between December 3 and 6, in order to promote the program. The dual degree entices by means of its combination of the industry-oriented approach of the ECPM and the research-oriented approach of the chemistry master’s program in Bremen.

Due to this cooperation, the University of Bremen is now a member of the German-French university.
