50 Years of Uni Bremen – 50 years of equipping people with knowledge, influencing destinies and writing history. With the audacity to want to change the world, the earnestness to acquire the knowledge needed to do so, and the intrepidness to see it through. In honour of this spirit, the University and the Alumni Association are putting on an exciting winter online talk series. Speakers include Dr. Hans Königsmann, alumnus and long-time Vice President of SpaceX in the USA; Dr. Uschi Eid, President of the Africa Foundation; and our alumna Prof. Dr. Antje Boetius, Director of the Alfred Wegner Institute for Polar and Marine Research.

In 2021 the University of Bremen turns 50 – 50 years of equipping people with knowledge, influencing destinies and writing history. 50 years of demonstrating a commitment and an exceptional spirit that have been associated with Bremen’s reform university from the very beginning: the audacity to want to change the world, the earnestness to acquire the knowledge needed to do so, and the intrepidness to see it through.

On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the University of Bremen and the Alumni Association would like to honour this spirit with an exciting online talk series in November, December and January 2022. We’ve put together a diverse line-up of committed alumni and guests representing business, science and civil society perspectives. On the table for discussion: how our university is shaping the major issues of our time, ranging from space travel to Africa to climate protection. Our speakers include Dr. Hans Königsmann, alumnus and long-time Vice President of SpaceX in the USA; Dr. Uschi Eid, President of the Africa Foundation and former Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Development Cooperation; and our alumna Prof. Dr. Antje Boetius, Director of the Alfred Wegner Institute for Polar and Marine Research. “We are very pleased that such distinguished guests are able to join us. This reflects the prestige that the University of Bremen and the work of its alumni now enjoy. And with Radio Bremen we have a partner who will ensure a perfect broadcast,” says Alumni Association Managing Director Derk Schönfeld.

The talks will be moderated by University of Bremen alumna and well-known Radio Bremen journalist Katrin Krämer, produced in the Radio Bremen TV studio, and broadcast via live stream. All talks will be simultaneously translated into English.

Following the talks will be a live-streamed event with an audience at the bremer shakespeare company, where representatives of all status groups from the university's founding year 1971 will discuss how it all began.
