Things are getting festive

As autumn approaches, the University of Bremen’s 50th anniversary year is heading inexorably towards its climax. On 14 October there will be a grand ceremony in Bremen’s Upper Town Hall, the very place where the founding charter for the new university was signed. In addition, the university is inviting not only all students and staff but the entire city to numerous events where they can learn more about their university.

Now appearing on signs all over the city: WHY – THAT’S WHY. At 50 spots around the city and state of Bremen, these signs highlight what people from – and with – the university have achieved over the years. Fifty examples that illustrate where the university is to be found and how it has changed Bremen since 1971. In October, an exhibition in the Lower Town Hall will bring together all 50 locations.

Campus City will bring the university into the city. From 18 October 2021, research and teaching will enliven Bremen's city centre. For around two weeks, central spaces and institutions will become public stages for lectures, seminars and exciting participatory events.

From the Files on the Stage, the successful cooperation between the university and the bremer shakespeare company (supported by the Alumni Association for years), is paying homage to the founding of the university with a new play: "The Free Hanseatic City is ready - the long road to becoming a university city". The premiere

is on 11 October.

There is also a series of events "Retrospect - Insight - Outlook. Rambling through 50 years of the University of Bremen" – and much, much more.
