ScienceChat: Ecological Seminar and Discussion Series
Objectives
The weekly ScienceChat is aimed at PhD students in ecology but all interested students, postdoctoral researchers and research fellows of the University Bremen are very welcome to join!
Participation in the “Science Chat” is without any commitment and free of charge! We meet every Monday at 2 p.m. in seminar room NW2 B 4100 (Group Hoffmeister). The event lasts for a maximum of 1 hour and takes place in English.

Founded by a group of PhD students from ecology in 2016, the “ScienceChat” is aimed at doctoral candidates and students in biology and related fields of natural sciences. Interested post-docs and other research staff are also very welcome to join our events.
In our weekly meetings we discuss topics such as latest results, experimental design, planned research questions, publications, or general topics of mutual interest. Due to a dynamic concept structure, our “Science Chat” provides a platform with a broad spectrum of topics, from conference presentations to literature discussions as a “Journal Club”, as well as invited speakers. The international composition of our meetings also offers the possibility to discuss the respective topic by considering different intercultural perspectives.
The intention of the “Science Chat” is to support exchange between different working groups and to provide an interdisciplinary platform for assistance with questions or problems, particularly for PhD students from the natural sciences. Our amicable meetings and relaxed atmosphere allows an impartial exchange of knowledge, resources, methods, contacts, and personal experiences.
In 2017, we were officially accepted as a „Doc-Network“. With support from the Early Carrer Researcher Development (BYRD) of the University of Bremen, we are able to invite guest speakers as well as offer workshops to improve soft sills techniques.
