Sustainable Development at the University of Bremen
What is happening already?
- The Commission for Sustainability, Climate Justice and Climate Neutrality (NKK) is developing a university-wide sustainability strategy. The draft proposal for this will be submitted to the Academic Senate at the beginning of the winter semester 2023/24. The current status of the strategy and previous sustainability reports can be found under the "Strategy" tab.
- The University of Bremen must become climate neutral by 2038 at the latest, if possible without "compensation" through the purchase of certificates. Until the adoption of a corresponding strategy by the Academic Senate, the climate protection policy from 2015 is the authorative document for reducing emissions.

What can I do?
- As a student, you can work on a transformative project on or off campus (or start a project yourself together with your friends!). You can also write a paper/thesis on a question you have encountered in the course of your work in the project.
- As an engineering or administrative staff member, you simultaneously have the best insight and the most direct influence on the university's operational and academic processes. Find allies in your workplace, start projects together, and network with initiatives at other universities.
- As a scientist, you can combine your transformative research in living lab projects with service learning. Join forces with colleagues working on the same topic from a different perspective and get advice on funding opportunities. We are happy to include such projects in our sustainability map!
