Simon Jungblut
Dr. Simon Jungblut
Simon is the Project Coordinator of the EU-funded project FACE-IT and responsible for the project management as well as outreach and social media activities.
He has a background in marine zoology, ecology, and ecophysiology and wrote his PhD thesis and several papers about the ecological and ecophysiological comparison two crab species, one of them (Hemigrapsus sanguineus) being invasive in Europe. Simon also worked on the feeding ecology of the rocky shore snail Littorina littorea, the at-sea distribution of seabirds and marine mammals, the parasitology of oysters and mussels, and the medical treatment of jellyfish stings.
In his spare time, Simon co-organizes different activities of the International Conference for Young MArine REseachers ICYMARE, an initiative of the Bremen Society for Natural Sciences NWV. ICYMARE organizes an annual conference and a monthly Online Forum, all in a bottom-up fashion by and for marine early career researchers. Within the NWV, Simon is the head of the Association for Marine Sciences, which will organize the NWV Ocean Chat and other marine research related public events in the future. In this context, Simon recently became member of the national German Decade Committee, which oversees and coordinates the German activities related to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021 - 2030).
