What is a cooperative degree program?
The University of Bremen and the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg offer a so-called cooperative degree program (“Kooperationsstudium”) for certain subjects (and types of schools). There are three versions of the cooperative degree program. For students aiming for a teaching career, only “Version 1: Studying with a cooperative subject” is relevant. This website provides information exclusively about this version of the cooperative degree program.
A selection of subjects is available that the respective other university cannot offer, allowing you to choose additional combinations of subjects. You will study one of your subjects at each of the two universities.

Important: Starting the cooperative study program is straightforward at the Bachelor level. A transfer into the M.Ed. cooperative programs is only possible if the general and, where applicable, subject-specific admission requirements for the Master of Education are met.

Cooperative Subjects in the Teacher-Training Bachelor Program
Students withe Home University Oldenburg can study the following subjects at the University of Bremen

Home University
In the cooperative degree program, you have a home university determined by your choice of subjects. This means you cannot freely choose your home university (see above). Application and administration are handled by the home university.
The study structure of the home university applies. There you will take one of your subjects as well as all general education and pedagogical courses. At the other university, you will only attend the courses related to your so-called cooperative subject.

Scheduling Conflicts and Travel Times
A cooperative degree program generally cannot be completed without scheduling conflicts. Courses take place at both the University of Bremen and the University of Oldenburg. The two universities are unable to coordinate the timing of their courses, which means that compulsory classes may be scheduled at the same time at both institutions. By seeking early advice from the relevant academic advisors (see below: Further questions?), you can at least avoid some of these conflicts.
Because of these scheduling overlaps and the travel times between the universities, you should expect that you may not be able to complete your studies within the standard period of study.
School Placements in the Cooperative Study Program
All school placements are organized by the home university and are completed in the corresponding federal state. School placements are assigned after registration through the following offices:
Home University Oldenburg: Center for Teacher Education – Didactic Center (DiZ)
Home University Bremen: Practical Training Office at the Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research (ZfLB)
Please note: The preparatory and accompanying courses for the school placements do not take place at the home university but at the cooperating university. Please make sure to check the schedule of these courses in advance so that you know when to complete the placement in your cooperative subject with the required preparation and supervision.
