Research Group Information Management

The Information Management Research Group is closely linked to the Institute for Information Management Bremen GmbH (ifib), a non-university research institute at the University of Bremen. It also forms the core of the "Information Management and Media Technologies" lab of the Center for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI) at the University of Bremen.

Our work focuses on organizational change in the context of advancing mediatization and the resulting handling of data and information. Our primary areas of application are public administration, as well as schools and universities. Our research draws, on the one hand, on theoretical approaches in mediatization research and, on the other, on the fundamentals of organizational sociology.

We take a design-oriented approach, meaning we focus not on the technology itself, but on the requirements of the respective field of application. This requires not only technical expertise in computer science but also knowledge of the respective organizations. This includes business process management, IT governance, and IT service management. Furthermore, we focus on developments in educational institutions and address issues related to media education, competency modeling, and the use of information systems for data-driven decision-making processes in educational contexts.
