ProMentes: Committed leaders wanted

Bild für Science goes public

In September 2022, the University of Bremen's career-oriented mentoring programme ProMentes will enter its twelfth round. For a period of ten months, committed executives from business, culture and public administration act as mentors to advise and support students and graduates who are about to enter professional life. Alumni are cordially invited to participate as mentors or mentees.

Mentors support and advise students and graduates on career issues, provide realistic insight into future fields of work, give feedback and open up new networks, especially between Uni Bremen students and companies in the region. But experienced managers also stand to gain from what the programme enables: insights into current study content and contacts with motivated junior staff. For both sides, good things come from establishing and expanding their networks.

"The response continues to be excellent. The programme has clearly established itself in Bremen," says the University of Bremen’s programme coordinator Wiltrud Hoffmann. "We are pleased that so many executives from different fields want to participate and share their knowledge and experience."

Twenty-four executives are currently supporting students and graduates. Since the start of ProMentes, 300 mentor-mentee partnerships have gone through the programme. Nearly all former mentees have embarked on a career path, and some have decided to continue their studies or to write a dissertation.

Participants in the current programme include mentees from the degree programmes Complex Decision Making, Media Culture and Globalisation, German Studies, Production Engineering, Transcultural Studies, Public Health, Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering.
