For your application you need a confirmation of enrollment/certificate of enrollment (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung)

AND

You have newly registered your primary residence in the state of Bremen or have not had a primary residence in the state of Bremen in the last twelve months.
You have moved to Bremen for the purpose of studying.

AND

You retain your primary residence in Bremen permanently; however, for at least 12 months (counted from the date of registration).

(It will always be checked, if you have lived in your primary residence for twelve consecutive months!)

 

Please Note:  

Visiting students cannot receive the Welcome Payment upon registration. If you are still living in Bremen and are still enrolled 12 months from your initial registration, you can subsequently apply for the Welcome Payment!

International students must prove based on their residence permit that their place of residence will continue to be in Bremen for at least 12 months after registration.

If you are moving from Bremerhaven to Bremen you cannot apply for the Welcome Payment. This change of residence is regarded a move within the state of Bremen.

The Welcome Payment will only be transferred to a German bank account!

If you are going to send us your application by mail or e-mail, we will also need a copy of your ID card or passport.

Welcome money for vocational training

By resolution of the Bremen Parliament, persons who have moved to the state of Bremen (cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven) to carry out vocational training will also receive the welcome money of 150 euros.

This applies to all dual and school-based vocational training programs regulated by federal law, including the Berufsbildungsgesetz (BBiG) and Handwerksordnung (HWO), or by state law, including the completion of preparatory services to acquire the qualification for a career up to the level of "Laufbahngruppe 2" with access to the "ersten Einstiegsamt", which are carried out in the state of Bremen. The application and payment of the welcome money is carried out by the bsu - as for new student citizens.

Even if you live in Bremerhaven, the application takes place at the bsu!

Requirements for applying for the welcome money:

You are conducting vocational training in the state of Bremen

AND

You have newly registered your primary residence in the state of Bremen for this purpose or have not had a primary residence in the state of Bremen in the last twelve months.
If you move to Bremen from Bremerhaven, you cannot apply for a welcome allowance. This change of residence counts as a move within the state of Bremen.

AND

You keep your primary residence in the state of Bremen permanently; however, for at least 12 months (counted from the date of registration).

(The retention of the primary residence is always checked!).


You apply for the welcome money by mail at the bsu with the application form available on our website and please enclose the following documents:

  • Copy of the education contract (or school certificate or copy of appointment certificate)
  • Copy of an identification document (identity card/passport)
  • proof of city registration in Bremerhaven
