Central Backup
The IT Service Center assists you with backing up data from workstations on campus and offers you the option to save your documents on a central backup server.
Access to the server backup.zfn.uni-bremen.de using a university account must be initially enabled for the account by account administration. Please contact the IT Service Desk via email or directly on premise at office hours.
A default capacity of 500 GB of storage is available for backups. This storage space can be increased if there is a justified need. However, we ask that you use the provided space judiciously and selectively back up only data that is truly important.
For the university account testuser, the server is accessible on campus via the file manager at \\backup.zfn.uni-bremen.de\testuser\ and can also be accessed via SFTP or SSH. (testuser is just an example)
Note: If a device has been infected with viruses or if the old hard drive had errors, it would be safer to reinstall all the programs and the operating system from scratch. For this reason, only user data should be backed up on the backup server. There is no backup of the backup server.
