DSC Seed Grant Paves The Way For New Third-Party Project

DSC members Lars Hornuf and Sonja Mangold receive third-party funding from the Hans Böckler Foundation to investigate data protection issues in the crowdworking and gig working market.

The Hans Böckler Foundation supports Prof. Dr. Lars Hornuf’s and Dr. Ass. Jur. Sonja Mangold’s new research project on „Platform work and data protection in a national and international perspective: market players, problem areas, regulatory requirements“ with more than 200,000 euros. The duration of the project, which is carried out in cooperation with the Hugo Sinzheimer Institute for Labor and Social Law , is 36 months. As part of the project, the scholars conduct joint empirical and legal research on how data protection issues are dealt with in the crowdworking and gig working market in China, Germany, and the USA. Based on the findings, policy proposals on data protection for platform work are developed, which address in particular national and European legislators.

The funding of a book project on the analysis of selected data protection issues in crowdsourcing transactions through the DSC Seed Grant in winter 2020 provided the foundation for the approved third-party project (learn more »here; only available in German).

We congratulate Lars Hornuf and Sonja Mangold and are looking forward to the results of the project!
