Dr Susanne de Vogel from the DSC supported the ComAI Summer School in Hamburg by leading a workshop on personal and sensitive research data. The workshop focused on data protection obligations and the responsible handling of data in qualitative and quantitative research.

At the INFORMATIK 2026, the Data Science Center (DSC) co-organized the fourth DaDiSC-Workshop. The event brought together data and digital science initiatives to discuss research and teaching approaches, as well as to shape sustainable community structures.

BlueDOT turns recreational divers into climate scientists who collect ocean temperature data to monitor warming in vulnerable coastal areas. At EMSEA 2026, BlueDOT will present its initial achievements and establish a new platform for participatory ocean research.

At the “Data Literacy in Higher Education” workshop on September 16, 2026, instructors explored how students can develop data skills. The Data Science Center and the Higher Education Didactics and Teaching Innovation team continued their collaboration with this event.

How do satellite and geospatial data strengthen global health? Experts addressed this question at the BIPS workshop in Bremen. The conference, funded by GLOHRA, shed light on methodological challenges and identified ways to achieve more equitable, reproducible health research.

How can digital transformation be embedded sustainably in research? Rolf Drechsler and Lena Steinmann joined international experts in Schloss Dagstuhl – Leibniz Center for Informatics to discuss the role of digital centers, shared competencies and institutional strategies.

At the end of August, the 17th European Sociological Association Conference took place in Warsaw. DSC Data Scientist Dr. Susanne de Vogel presented an approach that highlights research support as an important interface between data science and social science research.

ICYMARE is aimed at young marine researchers and offers them the opportunity to learn about the latest research findings and gain conference experience. The DSC Seed Grant is intended to facilitate the organization of workshops and a poster session.

At IJCAI-ECAI 2026, the Data Science Centre will be represented as part of the University of Bremen’s exhibition stand. From 18 to 20 August, the DSC will be showcasing its services and activities relating to data science, data literacy and research data management.

At GECCO 2026, Nils Leusmann presented the latest developments in the open-source Tool EvoAl. The contribution demonstrates how the DSC is breaking down barriers to the use of optimization and machine learning as well as contributing to data science research on an international scale.
