DSC Seed Grant
Financial support for your data science project: The Seed Grant supports pilot studies, networking formats, research projects, and more — with up to 2,500 Euros per applicant.

As part of the interdisciplinary data competence center for the Bremen region, the DSC is opening up its services to the region — researchers also benefit from additional services within the network.

The Data Science Center (DSC) coordinates and advances the University of Bremen’s data-related expertise and activities. It promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthens researchers’ data literacy, and supports sustainable, data-based research across all scientific fields.

The DSC also serves as a central point of contact, providing services in data management and data science. In addition, the DSC collaborates on data-based research projects, bringing its data expertise to research teams as a project partner.

International AI networking in Bremen: Meet the DSC at IJCAI-ECAI 2026

At IJCAI-ECAI 2026, the Data Science Centre will be represented as part of the University of Bremen’s exhibition stand. From 18 to 20 August, the DSC will be showcasing its services and activities relating to data science, data literacy and research data management.

Enhancing Machine Learning Accessibility via EvoAl – The DSC at GECCO 2026

At GECCO 2026, Nils Leusmann presented the latest developments in the open-source Tool EvoAl. The contribution demonstrates how the DSC is breaking down barriers to the use of optimization and machine learning as well as contributing to data science research on an international scale.

Software for Data Management Plans – The DSC at the RSE Day 2026

In a contribution at the Research Software Engineering Event RSE Day 2026 in Hamburg, Nils Leusmann presented the open-source data-science tool EvoAl. The software offers researchers a user-friendly approach to create data management plans using innovative programming language.

Summer School 2026 “Location Matters“ Brought Disciplines Together

From July 13–17, 2026, the DSC, BIPS and ZMT collaboratively hosted the Summer School "Location Matters: Geospatial Methods for Health Scientists, Social Scientists, and Geoscientists“, an interdisciplinary training event designed to enable participants to work effectively with spatial data.

DSC supports Chilean-German Workshop on Combinatorial Optimization

How can complex optimization problems be solved efficiently and reliably when data is uncertain, dynamic, or only partially known? This question will bring together around 60 researchers from August 10-14, 2026, for the international Chilean-German Workshop on Combinatorial Optimization in Bremen.

Drawing on experiences from the Data Competence Center DataNord, the article examines challenges related to data literacy in the marine environmental sciences and discusses approaches to make data literacy and research data management more accessible and practical for researchers.

The Data Science Center took part in the University of Bremen’s OPEN CAMPUS 2026 with an interactive booth at the MZH. At the Data Wheel of Fortune, visitors could test their knowledge of data, AI, and data science, and win small prizes.

Integrating Web Data and NLP into Business Statistics: DSC at the 7th Business Data Collection Methodology Workshop

At an international workshop on business data collection, the DSC presented a methodological framework for integrating web data and Natural Language Processing into business statistics. The approach builds on methodological expertise developed within the data competence center “DataNord”.

DSC Supports Research Presentation on a CHERI-Enabled Virtual Prototype at the RISC-V Summit Europe 2026

“CHERI-VP” enables the early evaluation of CHERI-enabled embedded RISC-V systems through virtual prototyping and benchmark-driven analysis. The simulation-based approach thus contributes to the systematic study of secure hardware-software co-design for emerging embedded computing platforms.
