The Interdisciplinary Institute at the University of Bremen Bremen for Data-Driven Research

The Data Science Center (DSC) coordinates and advances the University of Bremen’s data-related expertise and activities. It promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthens researchers’ data literacy, and supports sustainable, data-based research across allscientific fields.

The DSC also serves as a central point of contact, providing services in data management and data science. In addition, the DSC collaborates on data-based research projects, bringing its data expertise to research teams as a project partner.

Hands-on Data Knowledge: DSC at OPEN CAMPUS 2026

The Data Science Center took part in the University of Bremen’s OPEN CAMPUS 2026 with an interactive booth at the MZH. At the Data Wheel of Fortune, visitors could test their knowledge of data, AI, and data science, and win small prizes.

DSC Supports Research Presentation on a CHERI-Enabled Virtual Prototype at the RISC-V Summit Europe 2026

“CHERI-VP” enables the early evaluation of CHERI-enabled embedded RISC-V systems through virtual prototyping and benchmark-driven analysis. The simulation-based approach thus contributes to the systematic study of secure hardware-software co-design for emerging embedded computing platforms.

Data Science at the Northwest Alliance: DSC Secures Funding for a New Networking Format

Together with partners from the University of Oldenburg, the Data Science Center has successfully secured a project under the Northwest Advanced funding line. The "Data Encounters Northwest" initiative intends to foster the development of new cross-campus collaborations in the field of data science.

DSC Supports the Establishment of a Research Collaboration on Science Communication and Digital Transformation Processes

The collaboration between the ZeMKI Lab for Digital Communication and Information Diversity (University of Bremen) and the Science Communication Department at the IKMZ (University of Zürich) aims to research digital transformation processes in science communication using data-driven approaches.

The DSC funds the Piloting of an LLM-Based Reproducibility Engine

By developing a reproducibility engine, the project makes it possible for the first time to automatically verify the reproducibility of empirical studies. This addresses a weak point in the transfer of knowledge and lays the groundwork for well-informed real-world decisions.

The DSC supports the Establishment of the Computational Literary Studies Research Group

The project aims to foster collaboration among researchers in digital literary studies from across Europe through regional network meetings and guest lectures, thereby creating a strong network for the consolidation of methods and theories.

Bremen x Oldenburg: Digital Humanities Lunchtalks strengthen regional network

As part of the Digital Humanities Lunchtalks, the DSC, SuUB and the BIS brought together researchers from Bremen and Oldenburg for a discussion. The online series once again demonstrated how collaboration within the Northwest Alliance is providing new impulses for digital methods in the humanities.

Data Literacy from the Start: DSC Course in the Master's Program in Neurosciences

As part of the interdisciplinary master’s program in Neurosciences, the DSC taught the fundamentals of research data management and FAIR data. The course demonstrates how DataNord helps integrate data literacy into academic education at an early stage.


Data Literacy Centers (DKZ) Workshop in Dresden

Thinking Ahead Together: Data Competence Centers and Infrastructures Gather in Dresden

Representatives from DKZ, NFDI, and state RDM initiatives met in Dresden to exchange ideas on data literacy and research infrastructures. The focus: sharing experiences, learning from one another, and developing joint approaches for sustainable support structures.

For the DFG Priority Program 2433, the DSC developed a tailored online format on research data management and FAIR data. Dr. Susanne de Vogel and Sarah Büker provided practical guidance on the fundamentals of responsible research data management.
