Data Science Center

The collaboration between the ZeMKI Lab for Digital Communication and Information Diversity (University of Bremen) and the Science Communication Department at the IKMZ (University of Zürich) aims to research digital transformation processes in science communication using data-driven approaches.

By developing a reproducibility engine, the project makes it possible for the first time to automatically verify the reproducibility of empirical studies. This addresses a weak point in the transfer of knowledge and lays the groundwork for well-informed real-world decisions.

The project aims to foster collaboration among researchers in digital literary studies from across Europe through regional network meetings and guest lectures, thereby creating a strong network for the consolidation of methods and theories.

Representatives from DKZ, NFDI, and state RDM initiatives met in Dresden to exchange ideas on data literacy and research infrastructures. The focus: sharing experiences, learning from one another, and developing joint approaches for sustainable support structures.

At the DaDiSC-Workshop in Bielefeld, representatives from nine institutions gathered to discuss the community’s future development. The DSC contributed its expertise particularly to the topics of research digitization and strategic development.

This DSC Seed Grant funds the advancement of an AI-supported workflow used for the systematic extraction of information from one of the most comprehensive movement records in early modern Central Europe. The project aims to convert historical visitor lists into a quantitatively analyzable data set.

At the 75th meeting of the German Data Forum (RatSWD), our coordinator Lena Steinmann presented the Data & Digital Science Community (DaDiSC) together with partners from Kiel and Hamburg. The discussion focused on sustainable structures for data-intensive research.

At DHd2026 conference in Vienna, Nele Fuchs and Annika Nolte led a hands-on workshop on automated audio transcription with Whisper. The session highlights how the DSC supports practical data skills in the Digital Humanities as part of its DataNord-project.

The study aims to assess multilingualism at two Japanese universities using the methodology of Linguistic Landscapes. The goal of the project is to reveal the subtle presence of minoritized languages in a largely monolingual society historically characterized by linguistic uniformity.

The Data Competence Center DataNord is once again awarding the Data Champion Award – endowed with 1,500 EUR. The award recognizes innovative achievements in research data management, with particular emphasis on the FAIR principles. Apply or nominate a candidate by February 15!
