The Interdisciplinary Institute at the University of Bremen Bremen for Data-Driven Research

The Data Science Center (DSC) brings together the data-related expertise and activities of the University of Bremen and develops them in a targeted manner. It promotes exchange between disciplines, strengthens the data literacy of researchers, and creates the conditions for sustainable, data-based research in all scientific fields.

As a central point of contact, the DSC offers comprehensive services related to data management and data science—and acts as a partner in data-based research projects.

DataNord x WiNoDa Winter School 2025 – DSC Contributes Galaxy Expertise

As part of the DataNord project, the Data Science Center (DSC) contributed to this year’s WiNoDa Winter School: Sarah Büker led a hands-on workshop on the Galaxy platform, thereby strengthening collaboration between the two data competence centers.

Strengthening and Expanding Data Science – 40 Researchers Publish Position Paper

Research with large datasets is becoming increasingly relevant across various academic disciplines. In a position paper, 40 researchers from 21 German and Austrian research institutes are calling for greater political and academic engagement in digital and data sciences.

The DSC Supports Research Stay in Oslo for Baffin Bay Model Development (BaffinDATA)

The research stay will provide the necessary datasets to support the development of a 3D numerical model for Baffin Bay (located between Greenland & Canada). The model will be used to provide insights into hydrocarbon distribution patterns that will be evaluated during an upcoming research cruise.


Article About DataNord Published in the Proceedings of the E-Science-Days 2025

Mid-March, the E-Science-Days 2025 took place in Heidelberg. The theme of this year's conference was "Research Data Management: Challenges in a Changing World". DSC coordinator Dr. Lena Steinmann attended the conference to give a presentation on the data competence center "DataNord".

At the Data Community Club meeting on 22 October, the team from the Data Science Center hosted an interactive World Café on current topics in Data Analytics – bringing together lively discussions, expert insights, and new perspectives.

When Data Meets Society: New Conference Contribution on Online Hate Speech and Data Literacy

A newly published poster from the collaboration between the DSC and ifib highlights how the DataNord project strengthens data literacy and supports research on online hate speech. The poster and abstract are now available on Zenodo.


INDIFUN-AI Project Meeting at the AWI

This October, the INDIFUN-AI project meeting took place at the AWI in Bremerhaven. The BMFTR-funded project investigates the role of marine fungi and fungus-like organisms in the food web to improve the detection of climate-related changes and identify reliable indicators of these changes.
