Uwe Schimank

Professor of Sociology

Modern sociological social theories are Uwe Schimank’s the speciality. In 2009 he was appointed as a professor at the University of Bremen. He researches inequality and social policy with his research group in the Faculty of Social Sciences and the SOCIUM Research Center. The 62-year-old is currently working on an English-language book version of his social theory. In addition to sociology, Professor Schimank loves photographing architecture – and can even find a certain aesthetic beauty in the much maligned University Boulevard.

Carina Schmitt

Professor of Global Social Policy

When she was 18, Carina Schmitt wanted to write children’s crime novels. But then she did an apprenticeship as a carpenter and dreamed of running her own workshop one day. However, things turned out differently. She ended up studying Political Science and History, submitting her post-doctoral dissertation and in 2017 she became a Professor of Global Social Policy at the University of Bremen. The 37-year-old researches the social legacy of colonialism. With great success: Carina Schmitt has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant by the European Research Council.
