Becoming a Mentee

Who can apply?
Formal requirements
- You are enrolled at the University of Bremen and are in the final phase of your studies. In any case, you should have completed your studies a few months before the end of the program period.
- You are a doctoral student at the University of Bremen and are planning your further career outside of academia.
- You are a graduate of the University of Bremen. You graduated no longer than one year prior to the application date.
- You recently completed your doctorate at the University of Bremen and are planning to start your career outside of academia
- You can spare an average of 8 hours per month to actively participate in the program. In addition to the meetings with the mentors and the network events, this also includes the preparation and follow-up of the meetings as well as taking participating actively in a project group
- Participation in the network meetings as well as the kick-off and closing events is mandatory.
Personal requirements
- You are committed and reliable and play an active and creative role in the program:
- You participate in at least three network events in addition to the kick-off, opening, and closing ceremonies.
- You work in a project group with other mentees to help shape the program.
- You are generally available to report on your experiences with ProMentes at an event (Praxisbörse / Uni-Schule) or an interview
- You are on site for at least the majority of the term
- You are open and interested in meeting people
You are keen on personal development and appreciate constructive feedback

Your application portfolio contains
- A current CV
- A letter of motivation: Please describe on a maximum of one page why you are applying as a mentee for ProMentes and what is your goal in participating in the program. What do you expect from a mentor? What do you expect from yourself? For inspiration: Imagine you had already completed the program – where would you be then, in comparison to now? What would have to happen in the program for you to say that your participation was a success in the end?
- The profile of interest (one page): What do you like to do? Which topics raise your interest? Which industry / field of work do you find interesting? What questions would you like to address? What are you passionate about?
- The application form (completed)
- Save your cover letter, CV and interest profile in a single PDF document with the signature “Application_Mentoring_Surname_First name
- Save the application form separately as a PDF with the signature ”Application form_Surname_First name

We will forward your application portfolio directly to the managers. Application documents that are deficient in form or content and do not meet the usual standard cannot be considered. We therefore strongly recommend that you take advantage of the advice and application portfolio check offered by the Academic Advice Team of the Employment Agency at the Career Center.

The application process
- After we receive your application documents, you will receive a confirmation of receipt.
- From April onwards, the documents will be reviewed and a first selection will be made. This always takes some time.
- If we have any questions, we will be in touch.
- As soon as we have found a suitable mentor for you, we will forward your documents to them and arrange an appointment for a non-binding introductory meeting.
- If both partners agree to work together after the meeting, the tandem is launched.
- Application deadline for the 2025/2026 round: April 20, 2025
- The matching process for the 2025/2026 round begins in May 2025.
- Kick-off for mentees: (time and place to be announced)
- Opening event: August 28, 2025 from 6-9 p.m. in the SFG building, rooms 0140 & 0150
What happens to your data?
By submitting your application documents to ProMentes, you agree to the following use of your data:
- Your application form and application portfolio will be stored by us at least until the end of the application process (August 31), but no longer than until the end of the respective program period (June 30 of the following year). If there is no successful matching with a manager or if you withdraw your application, your documents will be deleted and destroyed on August 31 or immediately after you withdraw your application. If you participate in the program, the deletion and destruction of the documents takes place after the program ends on June 30 of the following year.
- For the matching, we forward your application portfolio without the application form to suitable managers.
- The managers agree to delete and destroy the documents received immediately if no matching occurs, or at the latest by the end of the program period (June 30 of the following year) if matching occurs.
- If you participate in the program, your field of study will be published on our website under the heading “Tandems”, together with the name of your mentor and the company/institution.
- Your data will not be transferred for any other purposes than those listed above.
You have the right to withdraw your consent to the above-mentioned use of your data at any time and to request the deletion/destruction of your documents at any time.
