The selection process comprises the following steps:

Information event (participation is optional, see above)

Selection of short-listed candidates

Interviews preferably take place in person in Bremen, but are also possible online. They include the following elements:

  1. Scientific presentation and discussion
  2. Question and answer session / interview
  3. Get to know direct colleagues (as part of the interview or later, e.g. during lab visit)

Any costs for the application process cannot be reimbursed.

Buddy system: Upon acceptance, the future doctoral candidates are assigned a colleague from the working group as a ‘buddy’ for informal exchange.

Usually at least three independent persons will be responsible for the selection:

  • 2 project leaders
  • optional: first PhD supervisor if this is not one of the project leaders
  • Direct colleague
  • Women’s representative and disability officer may participate

The names of the people involved in the interview will be communicated in advance.
