The selection process comprises the following steps:

Selection of short-listed candidates
Interviews preferably take place in person in Bremen, but are also possible online. They include the following elements:
- Scientific presentation and discussion
- Question and answer session / interview
- Get to know direct colleagues (as part of the interview or later, e.g. during lab visit)
Any costs for the application process cannot be reimbursed.
Decision
Final decision
Buddy system: Upon acceptance, the future doctoral candidates are assigned a colleague from the working group as a ‘buddy’ for informal exchange.
Usually at least three independent persons will be responsible for the selection:
- 2 project leaders
- optional: first PhD supervisor if this is not one of the project leaders
- Direct colleague
- Women’s representative and disability officer may participate
The names of the people involved in the interview will be communicated in advance.
