11-PH-BA-TheMo-2c	Die Public-Health-Perspektive am Beispiel von Tabak- und Nikotingebrauch (in englischer Sprache) Public Health Perspectives: The Example of Tobacco and Nicotine Seminar Termine: wöchentlich Fr 12:00 - 14:00 UNICOM 3.0220 Seminarraum 4 (2 SWS) Tobacco use is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced, killing more than 8 million people a year, including around 1.2 million deaths from exposure to second-hand smoke (WHO). Learn about tobacco and nicotine use, its health effects and its effects on the (global) burden of disease and thus, its relevance to Public Health. Gain a better understanding of factors contributing to socially patterned tobacco use and cessation outcomes and various forms of interventions for smoking cessation. By completing this seminar, learners will: • Know the current prevalence and overall trends of combustible tobacco use in Germany and worldwide • Gain an understanding of the health effects of smoking • Understand the social determinants of smoking • Be able to identify factors contributing to difficulties with smoking cessation • Learn about the various forms of interventions for smoking cessation • Be able to explain the concept of harm reduction with the example of vaping • Gain Knowledge about novel approaches to smoking cessation (i.e., mHealth)	Dr. Tina Jahnel

11-PH-BA-SozUn-2d	Gender and global health inequalities (in englischer Sprache) Seminar Termine: wöchentlich Do 10:00 - 14:00 GRA2A 0050/60 (4 SWS) Social inequalities manifest in many forms within and between societies: in systematic differences in access to education, housing, employment and wealth, as well as in access to health care and other forms of social protection. Differences tend to emerge along particular dividing lines or between 'social status groups' which in turn can lead to discrimination. The impact of various social determinants on physical and mental health, both at the individual and collective level, is profound and should be understood as 'social determinants of health'. Social inequalities are therefore closely linked to health inequalities and this has huge implications for social justice in a society. This seminar provides both a theory-based introduction to social determinants of health (part 1, theory) and a contextual analysis of the role(s) that gender plays as a social determinant (part 2, case study). We will examine constructs of gender in Global Health research and practice, analyze who profits and who is harmed by which attributions, and reflect on our own positionality as researchers and Public Health practitioners when designing, implementing and evaluating interventions that (also) address gender justice. 11-PH-BA-MoMa-1d	Maternal and child health: global examples of prevention and health promotion (in englischer Sprache) Seminar Termine: wöchentlich Do 14:00 - 16:00 Online (2 SWS) The aim of this introductory seminar is to provide an overview of global aspects of maternal and child health. To this end, we critically examine structural conditions for health-promoting motherhood and childhood in different social contexts, including paradigms such as life course perspectives, health equity and social determinants of health. In addition to background information and project presentations, we will pay special attention to literature on different facets of maternal and child health, including biographical material. One session will be designed by BUKO Pharma Campaign and its project: "Impact of the Pandemic on the Health of Women, Mothers and Children in the Global South"(in German). Sprache) (in englischer Sprache) Seminar Termine: wöchentlich Mi 14:00 - 16:00 IW3 0200 (2 SWS) Die Gesundheitspsychologie beschäftigt sich auf Basis eines bio-psycho-sozialen Verständnisses von Gesundheit mit dem menschlichen Erleben und Verhalten – vor allem mit Blick auf die körperliche Gesundheit. Im Rahmen des Seminars beschäftigen wir uns mit Stress und Stressbewältigung, Gesundheitsverhalten oder auch dem Umgang mit chronischen Erkrankungen. Dabei stellen wir nicht nur psychosoziale Risiken, sondern auch Ressourcen wie Selbstwirksamkeit und Optimismus in den Fokus.	Prof. Dr. Benjamin Schüz

Thus, it is important to understand both the historical perspective and the current political structures that created and perpetuated these inequalities. Through a critical approach, this course examines the causes and the consequences of global health inequalities and applies this knowledge to two current crises: the socioecological crisis and climate emergency and the socioeconomic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Modul 65: Open General Studies (verantwortl. Prof. Dr. Henning Schmidt-Semisch)

12 CP: Voll- u.Profilfach
In Modul 65 General Studies - Wahlpflichtbereich müssen von den Studierenden 12 CP erbracht werden. Die Studierenden können hierzu völlig frei aus dem Lehrveranstaltungs-Angebot der Universität Bremen wählen: Dies Angebot umfasst alle Lehrveranstaltungen, die eine Veranstaltungs-Kennziffer (VAK) der Universität Bremen haben, also auch entsprechende Lehrveranstaltungen z. B. des Fremdsprachenzentrums, der Studierwerkstatt etc. Die jeweiligen Leistungen können benotet oder unbenotet sein. Benotete Leistungen gehen dabei nach Credit-Punkten (CP) gewichtet in die Endnote ein. Die Studierenden entscheiden selbst, welche Leistungen sie sich im Modul 65 anrechnen lassen. Zwei wichtige Hinweise: 1) Im Zentralen Prüfungsamt (ZPA) eingereichte Scheine können nicht mehr ausgetauscht oder anderweitig verschoben werden; 2) Jede Veranstaltung bzw. jedes Modul kann nur einmal zur Anerkennung eingereicht werden.

Alternativ zu Lehrveranstaltungen der Universität Bremen und des Fremdsprachenzentrums können:
a) bis zu 3 CP für künstlerisch-kulturelle Aktivitäten an der Universität Bremen (z.B. Universitätsmusik) anerkannt werden;
b) bis zu 3 CP für die Mitarbeit im Studiengangsausschuss (Stuga) oder für freiwilliges zivilgesellschaftliches Engagement während des Studiums (innerhalb und ausserhalb der Universität Bremen) angerechnet werden. Für diese Leistungen muss ein zweiseitiger (5.000 Zeichen) Reflexionstext angefertigt werden, worin der Kompetenz- und Erkenntniszugewinn der ausgeübten Tätigkeit mit Blick auf das Studium der Gesundheitswissenschaften reflektiert wird.

Handhabung der Anrechnung:
Alle Leistungen, die in Veranstaltungen der Universität Bremen (reguläre Lehrveranstaltungen sowie Veranstaltungen des Fremdsprachenzentrums, der Studierwerkstatt, der Universitätsmusik etc.) erbracht werden, werden direkt vom ZPA in PABO/FlexNow eingetragen. Die vom jeweiligen Fachbereich gesiegelten und mit CP-Angabe versehenen Scheine werden in Original und Kopie im ZPA eingereicht.
Leistungen von anderen Universitäten müssen durch den Bachelor-Prüfungsausschuss (BPA) – vertreten durch seinen Vorsitzenden – anerkannt werden.
Die Mitarbeit im Studiengangsausschuss (Stuga) sowie freiwilliges zivilgesellschaftliches Engagement sind beim Modulverantwortlichen, Herrn Schmidt-Semisch, einzureichen. Dieser prüft die jeweilige Leistung und meldet sie an das Prüfungsamt.

11-PH-BA-M65-2	Journal Club Global Child Health (in englischer Sprache) Seminar Termine: wöchentlich Mo 12:00 - 14:00 GRA2 0180 (2 SWS) This seminar gets you reading, chritically and discussing various journal articles and book excerpts on different aspects of child health globally. We will dive into different texts, and each student will at one point be responsible for preparing a text and a corresponding discussion. Some creative writing techniques will be employed from time to time to engage with the texts in new ways. Our topics range from pain clinics for young adults in the US to children as caretakers after HIV or tuberculosis in Africa; and you get the chance to propose topics that interest you. For a successful classroom experience your active participation is required. Class language is English. You will be expected to lead discussion on one text and write three short pieces (approx. 5 pages each) throughout the semester on current news or finding on any aspect of global child health.
