Das Institut wurde 2008 unter der Ägide von Prof. Dr.Helga Bories-Sawala und Prof. Dr. Norbert Schaffeld gegründet. 2018 feierte das BIKQS sein zehnjähriges Jubiläum mit einem Kanada- und Québec-Studientag. The institute was founded in 2008 under the aegis of Prof. Dr. Helga Bories-Sawala and Prof. Dr. Norbert Schaffeld. L'institut a été fondé en 2008 sous l'égide de la professeure Helga Bories-Sawala et du professeur Norbert Schaffeld.
