At the Chair of Engineering Mechanics – Structural Mechanics, we conduct research on the microstructural mechanics of modern high-performance materials. For metals, ceramics, and fiber-reinforced composites, we investigate microstructures to gain a deeper understanding of their mechanical behavior at the macro level. We support theoretical model development with high-resolution numerical simulations, thus combining mechanical understanding with the development of numerical algorithms.
In our teaching program, we offer introductory courses in engineering mechanics as well as advanced courses in strength of materials, microstructural mechanics, and numerical simulation. Our goal is to bridge the gap between material and component properties through a profound understanding of mechanics.
