Intersections of Religion, Gender, and the State in the case of gender-based violence

Protestaktion von TERRE DES FEMMES gegen Frühehen.

In the academic study of religion but also in the current feminist discourse, the intersections of religion, gender, and the state are often addressed in terms of women’s religious identity, women’s practices, or feminist (re-) interpretations of religious texts. Religiously legitimized gender violence is often markedly absent from the scholarly debate. Therefore, the project wants to focus on one of these harmful practices in order to raise attention for patriarchal religious gender norms in the study of religion, gender studies, and sociology.
