Overview

This project aims to enhance human-robot interaction (HRI) by increasing the attribution of the Theory of Mind (ToM) to robotic agents through the external representation of their internal signals, similar to processes that take place in human-human interaction, bringing us a little closer to usable living technologies. Theory of Mind, the ability to attribute mental states to others, is crucial for effective social interaction. This project will investigate whether providing a representation of a robot’s internal signals that relate to its internal state, such as CPU load or power consumption, can improve the user’s attribution of ToM to the robot. By doing so, we anticipate improvements in the robot’s likeability, trust, and credibility during interactions. By accounting for ToM in robotic design, we aim to create more natural, intuitive, and socially attuned interactions between humans and robots.
