Overview

The examination of skin tissue samples in pathology laboratories is the gold standard for the accurate diagnosis of many skin diseases. However, a steadily increasing number of samples combined with fewer and fewer pathologists and manual work steps at the microscope are increasingly pushing diagnostics to its limits. To meet this challenge, the Bremen-based start-up aisencia is developing an AI assistant for the digital diagnosis of skin samples in order to bring greater efficiency and additional quality to diagnostics. To achieve this goal in practice, it is particularly important to make the interaction between human experts and AI intuitive, secure, informative, and ergonomic.

The Digital Media Lab is working with aisencia to develop a corresponding user interface for the assessment of skin diseases in pathology. To ensure that the AI's results can be competently evaluated, rejected if necessary, and interpreted, the project is developing and testing new visualization and interaction methods for pathologists
