Pre-Christmas Physics Show

The experimental show is back!

The show takes place on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in building NW1 in lecture hall 1 at Otto-Hahn-Allee 1 in Bremen.

Traditionally the public "Physics Show in Advent" takes place every year in the pre-Christmas period. Unfortunately the show  had to be canceled in recent years due to the coronavirus. We are all the more pleased that it can finally take place again after a three-year break.

Staff from the Physics department and Physics laboratory demonstrate exciting, sometimes Christmas-themed experiments from various fields of physics. Physical phenomena and their relation to everyday life are shown and explained in a short and relaxed sequence. See for yourself that physics is also fun! Let Professor Notholt (Environmental Physics) and the staff of the Physics laboratory amaze you.

All those who are enthusiastic about physics and technology are invited, especially pupils and young people with their parents and teachers.

Make sure to arrive in timeto secure a seat. Admission is free.

Digital Advents Calendar
Magic? In one of the Advent calendar videos, Professor Justus Notholt shows how to boil water in a glass flask containing cold water. The cooling of the closed hot glass bulb reduces the pressure in the glass bulb and water evaporates at lower pressure at lower temperatures.

Physics and Chemistry Advent calendar

As the physics and chemistry shows could unfortunately not take place the last three years due to the pandemic.  As a result, the teams led by environmental physicist Justus Notholt and the chemist Stephan Leupold created digital natural science advent calendars in the past years from 2020 - 2022. Every day from December 1 to 24, you could watch an experiment on the YouTube channel of the University of Bremen.

Of course, you can still watch the exciting videos on the Youtube channel of the University of Bremen (German only).
