Advanced Microeconomics

Seminar

In the first part of the course, students learn about various forms of market failure (market power, externalities, asymmetric information, behavioral distortions). Government interventions designed to correct these market failures are also introduced. At the same time, students prepare their own presentations on these topics, which they present in the second part of the course.
Dates and further information can be found in Stud.IP.

International Economics and Sustainability

Seminar

In this course, students will learn about the basic models of international trade theory (Ricardo, Ricardo-Viner, Heckscher-Ohlin) as well as more recent models of international trade in oligopoly settings, and will come to understand how global patterns of specialization arise from differences in factor endowments and the resulting firm location choices. Students are expected to apply the concepts they have learned to the topic of sustainability in seminar presentations and to present models and empirical evidence regarding the effects of unsustainable production processes on trade and employment. In particular, students are expected to familiarize themselves with and analyze the effects of economic policy measures.

Prior knowledge of the fundamentals of microeconomics is required to participate.
Dates and additional information can be found in Stud.IP.
