Islands as places of encounter in the pre-modern era – IMFF lecture series

The IMFF invites you to three public lectures during the 2025/26 winter semester. Under the title “Islands as Places of Encounter in the Pre-Modern Era,” the speakers will shed light on perspectives on real and fictional islands. All interested parties are cordially invited to attend.

The three-part lecture series organized by the Institute for Medieval and Early Modern Studies (IMFF) focuses on islands as places of the unfamiliar, the miraculous, and the dangerous. The lectures explore literary and cultural representations of islands from the Middle Ages to the early modern period and invite discussion on different perspectives.
