S04 - Analysis of Machinability on Micro and Macro Scale
S04 - Machining
A key question of this project concerns the scaling effects between micro- and conventional machining. Due to the targeted application of micro machining and conventional machining, the samples are analyzed on different scales. Starting with a definition and calibration of the methodology as well as the process and measurement parameters for the evaluation of micro and macro samples, correlations between the descriptors are studied. In subproject S04, among others classic criteria for machinability, such as cutting forces and surface quality, are used as descriptors. Both for the conventional and micro machining additional information will be gathered by the evaluation of acoustic emission measurements. To ensure further transferability, the transition region between conventional and micro cutting will be analyzed. By mapping the descriptors to the mechanical material properties, high-throughput methods will be bridged to practice-oriented evaluation of the developed materials.
