Anti-feminism & anti-democratic attitudes
Gender researchers and gender policy activists are facing increasing hostility and attacks. This anti-feminism at universities manifests itself in insults, disparagement, hostility, and even physical threats and vandalism. The aim is to discredit individuals or an entire area of activity.
Anti-feminism at universities intersects and overlaps with racist, anti-Semiti, and queerphobic attacks, as well as other forms of group-focused hostilityy. It exhibits, for example, similar patterns to the threats faced by climate researchers.
Anti-feminism is an attack on fundamental rights and thus endangers democracy. Anti-feminism at universities also endangers academic freedom. Gender equality and a diversity policy that rejects discrimination are essential for high-quality research and teaching in all areas of university life.
That is why we are committed to combating right-wing populist and right-wing extremist anti-feminist attitudes and actions at the university and beyond. That is why we are active in university and nationwide networks such as the Bundeskonferenz der Frauen- und Gleichstellungsbeauftragten an Hochschulen (BuKoF).
If you require information or advice on this topic, please do not hesitate to contact us. If you are wondering how to assess and evaluate a particular situation, if you want to clarify your options for action, if you would like to network with others at the university or if you are planning an event on this topic, you are very welcome to contact us!
Furhter information on anti-feminism can be found on the BuKoF-website "Antifeminismus und Hate Speech" (German only).
New reporting adress for risk - and threatmanagement
The university administration has introduced a new reporting address to gain a better picture of the security situation and to take a stand against risks and threats.
The reporting office focuses on issues such as vandalism, discriminatory graffiti, threatening behavior, and hostility.
First and foremost, the address is a reporting and mediation center. Reports are documented and, if necessary, forwarded to departments within and outside the university. Reporting cases is particularly helpful in order to initiate appropriate measures in the event of repetitions and accumulations.
The reporting address is: risk@uni-bremen.de
IMPORTANT: The reporting center is NOT an emergency center! In case of acute threats, please contact the police at 110 and/or the emergency number at 112!
Reporting Anti-Feminism
In order for anti-feminism to become visible, it must be possible to report it.
This is where the Anti-Feminism Reporting Center comes in.
Unsure what anti-feminism is or why it is important to report it? You can find out more about the important contribution that civil society reporting centers make to our democracy and learn more about the work of the Anti-Feminism Reporting Center on the bpb website.
