There are no admission restrictions for the Master's programme Community Health Care and Nursing: Health Care Research and Health Care Planning, M.Sc.

According to the Admission Regulations and Admission Restriction

The requirements stated in the admission regulations (AO), which must be fulfilled for admission to the Master's programme Community Health Care and Nursing: Health Care Research and Health Care Planning, are explained step by step below, as well as the possibilities of submitting or catching up on admission requirements which have not yet been fulfilled by the end of the application deadline (15 July).

Closeness to the content of the first degree programme (according to § 1 paragraph 1a of the AO)

Admission requirements according to the admission regulations for the Master's degree programme "Community Health Care and Nursing: Community Health Care and Nursing: Health Care Research and Health Care Planning (short title: "Community Health Care and Nursing") are:

a. A first professional university degree in one of the following degree programms:

- Vocational education Nursing science

- Nursing Science, dual study programme

Or in a degree programme which does not show any significant differences in content, scope and requirements to those, with study achievements amounting to at least 180 credit points (CP) according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), or achievements which do not show any significant differences in content, scope and requirements to those.

If the first degree qualifying for a profession is identical to these subjects, the proximity in terms of content is generally recognised; in this case, a transcript of records is sufficient for the application.

Proof of proximity in terms of content in the case of a different degree title (according to § 1 paragraph 1a of the AO)

If the first subject of study is not nursing science, only degree programmes that do not show any significant differences in content, scope and requirements to the degree programme in nursing science can be recognised. In this case, applicants must apply for the examination of the content-related proximity.

Please upload the relevant module descriptions in the upload area of the Master's online application. In the online portal in the "other" section, module manuals of a maximum size of 5 MB can be uploaded. The module descriptions are necessary because it is not possible to conclusively assess whether the admission requirements are met on the basis of course titles alone.

Only those course contents can be recognised that show a clear proximity in terms of content. The selection committee decides on the recognition of content-related proximity (equivalence) and thus the possibility of admission after the application deadline.

Only the credit points acquired in the first degree programme are used to assess the content-related proximity. Professional experience, training and further education, internships, etc. are not taken into account.

Missing credit points as proof of subject-related proximity

These CPs as proof of subject proximity must be submitted by the application deadline (15.07.) and can therefore not be submitted later.

Prospective students for this degree programme who have not yet completed their Bachelor's degree can, under certain circumstances, try to design those study components which they can influence in terms of content in such a way that they fit into the admission profile of the Master's degree programme Community Health Care and Nursing: Health Care Research and Health Care Planning, M.Sc.

The content-related proximity of the current degree programme can be increased through the corresponding subject-related selection of specialisations or elective modules, the topic of the Bachelor's thesis as well as through the content of a study abroad programme. Corresponding certificates of achievement can also come from another study programme. This study programme does not have to be completed.

B1 certificate of English (according to § 1 paragraph 1c of the AO)

A further admission requirement is proof of an English certificate at level B1 (European Framework of Reference). The certificate can be submitted to the SfS International no later than two weeks after the start of the course (see semester times/lecture times of the University of Bremen).

Please note: In case of admission, the semester documents will only be sent after receiving of all subsequent submissions (proof of English and/or proof of having passed the Bachelor's programme). With the semester documents, students receive their Stud.IP password, which they use to register for the courses.

There are three possibilities for B1 certificate:

    a) Proof of language proficiency via Abitur (only recognised for applications to the University of Bremen).

for the Abitur with 12 school years (G8) at least 6 years of schooling - continued until at least grade 11

for the Abitur with 13 years of schooling (G9) at least 7 years of schooling - continued until at least grade 12.

If the minimum requirements are not met, proof of language competence must be provided in the form of a language test or language certificate:

    b) Language proof via language test (only recognised for application to the University of Bremen).

The Language Centre of the Universities in the State of Bremen (SZHB) and cooperating cultural institutes offer language tests to prove foreign language skills for a fee of approx. 40 EUR. In order to assess your existing English level, you can take a free placement test at any time - either directly at the Language Centre of the University of Bremen or online from home. However, a placement test alone is not sufficient to prove level B1 according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages.

 c) Proof of language proficiency via certificate

Please refer to the SZHB homepage for an overview of proof of foreign language skills via certificates.

Questions about the B1 English certificate

English Team of the Language Centre of the University of Bremen

Dr. Annette Jahnke

German language skills (according to § 1 paragraph 1d of the AO)

Foreign students, i.e. applicants who have not acquired their higher education entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution, must prove that they have the German language skills required for successful participation in the courses (linguistic study ability) before beginning their studies at the University of Bremen. Please enquire here which examinations are also recognised by the University of Bremen in addition to the TestDaf.

The proof of German language skills as well as the B1 proof of English can be submitted up to two weeks after the start of the course.

Other

Bachelor's degree not yet completed

At the time of application (15.07. at the latest), you must provide proof of at least 150 credit points from your Bachelor's degree. If this is evident from the Transcript of Records, this proof would be sufficient. If the application fulfils the other admission requirements according to § 1 of the Admission Regulations, admission can be granted on the condition that all study and examination achievements for the first degree qualifying for a profession are completed no later than two weeks after the start of the Master's programme. See semester/lecture times of the University of Bremen. Certificates and transcripts, on the other hand, must be submitted by 31 December at the latest (see § 1 paragraph 3).

The following should be noted: Without a verifiable Bachelor's degree, you can (after fulfilling all the above-mentioned requirements as well as the described ranking) be granted a place, but you cannot enrol in the Master's degree programme on 01.10.. This may involve the following disadvantages: BAföG payments will be suspended until the Master's enrolment, no examination registration possible in the Master's programme, no automatic sending of the semester ticket and - if you have not previously studied at the University of Bremen - no university mail account and thus no participation on Stud.IP, no semester ticket, no student card and no library card.

Learning outcomes/competences

  • The Master's degree programme is designed to enable students to develop both theoretically and empirically sound and ethically reflective concepts or measures of nursing science with a focus on Community Health Care and Nursing within the framework of research and applied activities.
  • Deepening theoretical, empirical and conceptual knowledge.
  • Development and implementation of independent research projects.
  • Conception, implementation and evaluation of application-related projects as well as communication with other professional groups, decision-makers and those affected.
  • Instruments are used which also play a role at the individual-centred level: Collection of assessments, diagnoses and interventions as well as evaluation of care-relevant problems at community and family level.

Possible fields of activity for graduates are in the areas of:

Research and teaching.

Preparation of planning concepts at the level of communities, neighbourhoods and family work.

Advising institutions, municipalities, authorities, relevant state ministries and associations.

Preparation and execution of appropriate public relations work using modern means of communication.

A three-semester research project takes the place of an internship, in which students work on their own questions, going through the research process and applying research methods. The research project is flanked by accompanying seminars.

The three-semester research project is the core of the Master's programme. It is carried out by students together with and for partners from the health sector. The project focuses on complex questions and problems from the everyday work of the practice partners. The students develop interventions for these on the basis of scientific methods.

Many projects have already been carried out in previous years, from which both the students and the practice partners have benefited in equal measure. You can find a list of previous research projects under the following link:

Research projects (as of 12/2021)

The two-year programme of the M. Sc. Community Health Care and Nursing: Health Care Research and Health Care Planning is designed as a full-time programme. Attendance is limited to 2-3 days a week on average, plus the amount of work to be done on one's own. This study programme is not manageable parallel to a full-time professional activity, as in addition to attending lectures, there are a variety of obligations in the context of student teamwork.
