Consortium meeting of the Mod-Block-DDR joint project in Berlin

The second consortium meeting of the joint project "Mod-Block-DDR" took place on 16 September 2019 at the TU Berlin with the participation of all scientists. On the agenda were the presentation of the seven subprojects, the planning of two conferences in the anniversary year 2020 and the discussion of a change of perspective on the results of the transformation in the New Länder since 1990.

The aim of the network is to identify the state socialist modernization blockades in the economy and science of the GDR, to analyse their effects on past real economic development and to demonstrate their continuing influence on the socio-economic disparities between the old and new federal states. In order to deepen the findings, the analyses include both internal German comparisons and comparisons with neighbouring countries in Eastern Central Europe.

The interdisciplinary network is financed by the BMBF in the current funding phase until 2022. In addition to the University of Bremen (consortium leader), the Technical University of Berlin, the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena and the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) are involved.
