Scientists from the Department for Resilient Energy Systems have succeeded in acquiring a project to research the hydrogen economy in Bremen together with a broad-based consortium, including the "Innovation and Structural Change" working group from the Department of Economics. The project has been funded by the BMBF since 01 September 2022.

Hydrogen is considered a promising technology to drive the transformation to a climate neutral and sustainable Europe. This project investigates how a hydrogen economy can contribute to climate neutrality through targeted technical, economic, ecological, legal and social design.

The working group "Innovation and Structural Economics" participates in the project with analyses on technology development paths and narratives and economic uncertainties associated with hydrogen technology. Within this framework, various data sets are examined with multivariate statistical methods and with machine learning approaches.

The project, funded by the BMBF for three and a half years, is coordinated by the Department of Resilient Energy Systems at the University of Bremen. The project consortium hyBit is supported by 19 partners from science and industry, working together with a strong collaborative approach. Project partners include the Wuppertal Institute, the Bremen Institute for Production and Logistics (BIBA) at the University of Bremen, Fraunhofer-IFAM (Bremen), Fraunhofer-ICT (Karlsruhe) and Bremen University of Applied Sciences, as well as other key players from Bremen industry such as Arcelor Mittal Bremen, swb and BLG. Eleven working groups from the technical sciences, humanities and social sciences are represented at the University of Bremen.
