Dr. Julia Borst wins the Abioseh Porter Best Essay Award 2023 of the African Literature Association
During the annual conference of the African Literature Association in Knoxville, Tennessee on the 27th of May, 2023, Dr. Julia Borst was awarded the Abioseh Porter Best Essay Award 2023 for her article „Imagining Afrodescendance and the African Diaspora in Spain: Re-/De-Centering Belonging in Literature, Photography, and Film“ (vol. 52, no. 2, 2021), published in the journal Research in African Literatures.
The Abioseh Porter Best Essay Award is awarded annually to outstanding articles within the field of African literary studies that are published in prominent, peer-reviewed scientific journals. The award committee especially underlined her achievements in elevating the visibility of a marginalised subject of research and broadening the global debate regarding the African diaspora to include Spanish contexts.

Romance scholar Dr. Julia Borst of the University of Bremen receives the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz-Award 2021. It is one of the most important awards for upcoming researchers in Germany. The price from the DFG and the BMBF is valued at 20.000 euros.
