Attempts

Bachelor & Master

If you fail an exam, you may retake it within a period of four semesters, in accordance with Section 21(1) of the General Provisions of the bachelor's degree and master's degree Examination Regulations. This period begins with the semester following the first attempt at the exam. You therefore have a total of five semesters to take the exam; the number of attempts is irrelevant.

According to Section 5(8) of the General Provisions of the bachelor's degree and master's degree examination regulations, an “exam” refers to module, combination, or partial exams. The specific type of exam is specified in the subject-specific examination regulations for your subject.

Exception: Bachelor or master thesis do have only two attempts.

There is no automatic registration.


First State Law Examination - intermediate exam

Pursuant to § 21 (2) of the Examination Regulations for law studies leading to the First State Law Examination in the Faculty of Law at the University of Bremen, students who do not pass an exam or failed to appear for the exam or were unable to take it owing to a recognized period of illness will be automatically registered by the Faculty administration to sit for the examination on the next possible date. Two retake attempts are possible.


First State Law Examination - Main Studies / Specialization Studies

With the exception of the final thesis, there are no limits on the number of times you can retake an examination in main and specialization subjects. Please note that you have to register to retake an exam yourself.

First State Law Examination – Bachelor of Laws
