Studied Arabic Studies in Hamburg (1982–1985) and Leipzig (1990–1991), as well as Economics (1982–1985) and Political Science (1992–1995) in Bremen. Received a Master’s degree in Political Science in 1995 and a Ph.D. (History) in 2003 from the University of Bremen. Taught at the University of Bremen (History, Politics) from 1997 to 1998, and at Bremen University of Applied Sciences (Politics, International Organizations, European Integration, Intercultural Communication) from 2005 to 2010. From 2005 to 2016, taught cultural studies at the University of Bremen. From 2013 to 2019, lecturer in the history of science at FSMV University in Istanbul. Since 2019, lecturer at the Faculty of Culture and Social Sciences at the Turkish-German University in Istanbul.

Research assistant at the Übersee-Museum Bremen (1991–1992), museum education (1992–2007), internship (1999–2002), and curator of cultural history exhibitions in Germany and Turkey (2003–2013). Director of Teaching and Development at the Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Research Foundation in Istanbul (2011–2019).

Decolonization and transculturality with a focus on the history of science (geography, cartography, scientific travel, medicine, ethics). Universal history of ideas, philosophy, and culture. Museology and inquiry-based learning.

Regional Focus

The Arabic-speaking world and Turkey, Africa, and cross-regional connections (the Arab world, Turkey, Europe)
