The Science Pathway
The science pathway teaches basic content, methods and tools used in Social and Cultural Anthropology, as well as in Communication and Media Studies. These also represent highly sought after core skills beyond the confines of academia.
Students familiarize themselves with varioussub-disciplines and current fields in Cultural Research and get a chance to test out qualitative methods of cultural research through independent projects. They gain exposure to leading-edge research, both theoretically and in a research-based learning optic.
The Media Pathway
The media represent a central feature of today’s world and everyday life. The BA in Cultural Research gives students exposure to the media in both theoretical and hands-on fashion.
By focusing on the media as an object ofcultural research, students familiarize themselves with the foundations of Media Anthropology and Cultural Research and engage with contemporary topics using a media & discourse analysis-based approach.
• Media use in the framework of students’ own projects: the wide range of methods used in Audiovisual Anthropology provides students with a tool-kit for experimenting in sound, video, film and digital media for both research and professional projects.
• Media use for the purposes of presenting research to a broad audience: students learn to present complex content in a creative andpublic-friendly fashion.
The Vocational Pathway and Culture in Practice
Your own personalized career path allows you to develop practical skills relevant to the world of work, while at the same time giving you direct exposure to the wide-ranging professional openings available. This then prepares you for jobs in the media, culture industry, integration and cultural mediation / education, cultural management, or in a development organization.
In year one students acquire basic academic work techniques, together with vocationally relevant skills, such as online searches, blog contributions, journalistic and academic writing and presentations.
