The University of Bremen wants to leverage the possibilities of generative AI to make university administration more efficient. Our goal is to integrate data protection-compliant tools into administrative workflows and support employees.

A lot of sensitive data is handled in administration in particular. Data protection and copyright law, but also bias, play a central role here. We can help you with questions about AI functionality, risks, and implementation.

The IMPACT joint project is implementing AI applications such as chatbots and feedback systems at five German universities (Goethe University Frankfurt, Humboldt University Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Fernuniversität Hagen and the University of Bremen), focusing on open source solutions and interoperability with existing university systems. To ensure sustainable implementation, a data-ethical change management system is being developed and the project results will be made accessible throughout Germany in accordance with open science principles.

The University of Bremen aims to make generative AI usable for all areas of activity - research, teaching and administration. To test and build up expertise, data protection-compliant access is provided via the GWDG's academic service portal and a guideline is defined as a framework for use. The introduction will be accompanied by support measures such as training, information materials, workshops and ongoing support.

With the HIT project – University IT for Bremen – the state universities in the state of Bremen want to find out how they can pool their IT resources, processes, and structures in a targeted manner. The idea is to share resources, consider needs jointly, and design digital infrastructures that are sustainable in the long term.

To this end, HIT is testing step by step how cross-university IT services can be set up and operated – in a practical, coordinated manner that is open to differences between the universities.
