This project aims to investigate the underlying characteristics and mechanisms of hate speech and to help better understand its impact on listeners. To this end, we will work with voice recordings of hate speech. We will create a speech database and develop acoustic, linguistic and paralinguistic features relevant to the fully automated detection of hate speech. Our interdisciplinary approach to the study of hate speech combines state-of-the-art machine learning methods for sentiment analysis (esp. automatic speech recognition and deep learning algorithms) with experimental (social) psychology and psychophysiology.
