The Institute of Political Science (IPW) organizes the political science teaching programme in the Department of Social Sciences. It benefits from the research strength of its members. The various Bachelor's (BA) and Master's (MA) programmes offer a sound education in all areas of political science with a wide range of elective and specialization options. The Institute cooperates with the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) in doctoral training.

Research in political science is organized in independent research institutes associated with the IPW: the Institute for Intercultural and International Studies (InIIS) and the SOCIUM - Research Centre on Inequality and Social Policy. Bremen Political Science is also involved in the CRC 1342 - Global Development Dynamics of Social Policy and other research networks.

4 new publications in the IPW Working Paper Series

As part of the IPW Working Paper Series, four more students have published their academic papers. The topics include education policy in Hong Kong, the electoral successes of the “Republicans” in Baden-Württemberg in 1992 and the development of welfare states.

Third Annual Award for the Best Thesis at the Institute of Political Science

On Friday, May 29, 2026, the Department of Political Science held its third annual awards ceremony for the best thesis. Four students were honored for their outstanding achievements in their bachelor’s and master’s theses.
