The German Chapter of the International Society of Public Law (ICON-S), together with Prof. Dr. Lars Viellechner, will hold its fourth conference on the topic of “Time – Space – Emotion. Evolving Public Law” at the University of Bremen from 17 to 18 September 2026. The deadline for the call for abstracts and the works-in-progress workshop ends on 31 March 2026.

This year, the University of Bremen is participating in the PAX Moot for the second time and has once again made it to the oral phase of the competition. The PAX Moot is a student competition in the form of a simulated court hearing, in which universities from all over Europe compete against each other. The case focuses on issues related to the EU rules on private international law and international civil procedural law.

On 22 January 2026, the 10th Labour Law Moot Court Competition took place at the Federal Labour Court. 31 student teams from 16 German universities took part in the competition. The University of Bremen was represented by three teams and nine students at the Moot Court, who were supported by Professor Dr. Sebastian Kolbe and Emilia De Rosa.

China is preparing an ambitious codification of its entire environmental law. Prof. Dr. Gerd Winter has met with members of the drafting committee several times to advise them from the perspective of European environmental law. He was commissioned by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) to write an expert opinion on the current draft, which comprises 1,188 articles, highlighting the differences and similarities between Chinese and European law.

The students Claudius Maximilian Dirks and Arap Ali Yilmaz of the University of Bremen have won the 14th Justus Liebig Moot Court, which was held as a nationwide student competition at the University of Giessen on 23 and 24 July 2025. This is the first time in the history of the Justus Liebig Moot Court that the prize for the winning team, worth €1,500.00, has been won by a team of the University of Bremen.

Research at international top level is carried out at Forum am Domshof - this is a result of the current Times Higher Education ranking where the Bremen Faculty of Law is listed among the top ten percent worldwide and takes first place among German universities.
