Chorus-CD
Alongside the performance of large works for choir and orchestra, the choir of the university has been working on a repertoire of international songs since 2006. This corresponds to the aims of the University of Bremen which cultivates a particularly high number of international contacts, but also fits in with the needs of the choir, which in addition to the large works that it regularly performs with the orchestra, can sing songs together spontaneously. The choir learnt the Eastern European and German songs in the repertoire as early as 2006, in the context of a project entitled “Sing along with friends”, which was geared in particular towards international students of the University of Bremen. 2008 saw a two-week long visit of the choir of the University of Namibia (director: Bonnie Pereko) to Bremen and a two-week long tour of the choir of the University of Bremen to Namibia.
In 2009, the choir welcomed the classical chamber choir of the Istambul Boğaziçi-University (director: Burak Erdem) and their visit was reciprocated in 2010. The African and Turkish songs in the repertoire have emerged from such exchanges. A detailed article concerning the international cooperation of the choir appeared in the university magazine „Impulse” 1/2012.
Since 2006, the choir has performed this gradually acquired repertoire in different configurations, alone or together with partner choirs, complete or in parts, in more than 70 concerts in Bremen and on concert tours. In June 2010 one of these concerts was recorded live as part of the event “Tag der Musik” (“Day of music”) on 19 June 2010 in the GW1 Lecture theatre of the University at which almost the entire song repertoire was sung.
