Mireille Miller-Young, Professorin für feministische Studien an der UC Santa Barbara, gilt als eine Wegbereiterin innerhalb der Porn Studies. Mit ihrer Publikation A Taste for Brown Sugar: Black Women in Pornography (2014) schafft sie einen grundlegenden Beitrag zum Bewusstsein über die Bedeutung Schwarzer Frauen in der US-Pornoindustrie. Ihre Untersuchungen operieren seitdem an Schnittstellen von Black Cultural Studies, Film and Media Studies, Sexuality Studies und Economy Studies und befragen aus dieser Multiperspektivität sowohl audiovisuelles Material, als auch die entsprechenden Produktionsverhältnisse in unterschiedlichen Bereichen von Sexarbeit. Im Fokus stehen dabei Diskriminierungs- und Ausbeutungsverhältnisse ebenso wie empowernde Momente und Möglichkeiten für marginalisierte Schwarze Sexarbeiter*innen.

Mireille Miller-Young, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Feminist Studies at University of California, Santa Barbara. A winner of UCSB’s Distinguished Teaching Award, Miller-Young researches and teaches about race and sexuality in US history, popular and film cultures, and the sex industries. Her award-winning book, A Taste for Brown Sugar: Black Women in Pornography was the first academic monograph to uncover the history of Black women’s performances and labor in pornography. Dr. Miller-Young has published in numerous anthologies, academic journals, and news outlets including Porn Archives, Queer Sex Work, Sexualities, The New York Times, The Washington Post,Colorlines, Ms., Coming Out Like a Porn Star, and $pread, a sex worker magazine. Dr. Miller-Young is a frequent featured expert for news, radio, podcasts, and documentaries, including for NPR, Netflix’s Explained, Netflix’s History of Swear Words, Sex Out Loud, The Kitchen Table Podcast, HuffPost Live, For Harriet, and Ms. She is an editor of The Feminist Porn Book: The Politics of Producing Pleasure, which has been translated into German and Spanish and was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award for Best LGBT Anthology, and she is an editor of Black Sexual Economies: Race and Sex in a Culture of Capital. Formerly the Advancing Equity Through Research Fellow at the Hutchins Center for African and African American Studies at Harvard University in 2019-2020, and a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Cultural Inquiry Berlin, Dr. Miller-Young convenes think tanks like Black Hollywood and Black Sexual Economies, serves as an advocate for the Black Sex Worker Collective and the BIPOC Adult Industry Collective, and as curator and preservationist for The Black Erotic Archive Project.
Die öffentliche Ringvorlesung „Critical Porn Studies – Künstlerisch-mediale Positionen und neue Perspektiven“ befasst sich mit künstlerischen und queer-feministischen Strategien und Produktions- und Rezeptionsprozessen von Pornografie. Internationale Expert*innen erarbeiten und reflektieren ästhetisch-mediale und bildkritische Fragestellungen zu Prozessen der Sexualitätsnormierung, diversen Lebensentwürfen, zur Bildgebung und -didaktik. Gefördert durch die Stiftung der Universität Bremen, das Autonome Feministische Referat der Universität Bremen und die FUN FACTORY GmbH.
