Zur Person
Prof. Dr. Matthias Klumpp ist seit 2025 Professor für Retail- und Logistikmanagement an der Universität Bremen. Er ist Mitglied des markstones Institute of Marketing, Branding & Technology und Leiter der dort angesiedelten Arbeitsgruppe „Retail- und Logistikmanagement“.
Nach Abschluss seiner Promotion an der Universität Leipzig mit Forschungsaufenthalt an der University of Sydney habilitierte sich Matthias Klumpp bei Prof. Dr. Stephan Zelewski an der Universität Duisburg-Essen. Danach war er als Senior Researcher am Fraunhofer-Institut für Materialfluss und Logistik (IML) Dortmund tätig. Er war Gastprofessor an der Universität Modena und Visiting Fellow am EUI Florenz.
In seiner Forschung beschäftigt sich Matthias Klumpp mit Fragestellungen digitaler und nachhaltiger Handels- und Logistiksysteme. Ein Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf humanzentrierten Systemen und Konzepten nach dem Paradigma "Industrie 5.0". Die Forschungspublikationen in diesem Kontext wurden in führenden internationalen Fachzeitschriften veröffentlicht, darunter Production and Operations Management Journal, EJOR, Journal of Business Logistics, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, International Journal of Production Research oder International Journal of Logistics Management. Matthias Klumpp ist Senior Editor des Journal of Business Logistics.
Neben seiner Tätigkeit an der Universität Bremen ist Matthias Klumpp im Rahmen einer Double Affiliation Associate Professor an der TU Mailand (Politecnico di Milano, School of Management, HumanTech - Human-centric Operations Systems).
