Nobelpreis-Kolloquium:

Developments in Laser Technology: Optical Tweezers and Chirped Pulse Amplification

This year, the Nobel prize in physics was awarded with one half to Arthur Ashkin "for the optical tweezers and their application to biological systems" and the other half jointly to Gerard Mourou and Donna Strickland "for their method of generating high-intensity, ultra-short optical pulses". The talk will present these inventions in terms of the underlying physics and show later developments enabling further important applications in science and technology.
