3D Metamaterials
Metamaterials are artificial materials in which the atoms of ordinary materials are replaced by tailored functional building blocks ("meta-atoms"). This allows for achieving effective properties beyond ("meta") those of the ingredient materials. After an introduction, I will present a few selected recent examples, including effective static negative compressibility, huge chiral effects, and roton-like dispersion relations.
