Introduction of an Integrated Bachelor Degree Programme within the Framework of the State Examination: Successful Expert Visit at the Faculty!

In accordance with the principle of "one examination regulation, two degrees", the Faculty of Law is planning to introduce an integrated Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree programme as part of the law study programme with the First Law Examination (state examination) as of winter semester 2024/25.

In future, students of law as a full subject at the university will have the opportunity to take not only the First Law Examination (State Examination), but also obtain the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in this study programme. It will also be possible to opt for only one of the two degrees. The Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) does not require passing the so-called state compulsory subject examination, as it is awarded only by the university. Students who have already started their studies before the winter semester 2024/25 will also be given the opportunity to transfer to the new degree programme. In this way, they will be able to obtain the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree before sitting for the examinations as part of the state compulsory subject examination. This means that students will no longer have to leave the university without a degree even if they ultimately fail the state examination.

On the way to the new Bachelor's degree programme, the Faculty of Law cleared an important hurdle on Thursday, 22 June 2023. International recognition of the Bachelor's degree and access to numerous Master's programmes worldwide require the accreditation of the study programme. As part of the accreditation process, a team of external experts, in particular teachers and students from other universities, thoroughly examined the concept and the means of regulation of the new study programme. The most important step in the accreditation process is the so-called on-site visit.Within the framework of the on-site visit, the experts talk to faculty and university management as well as teachers and students of the Faculty of Law. This expert visit took place on 22 June 2023. In the subsequent feedback round, there was a lot of praise for the concept of the degree programme developed in Bremen, with particular emphasis on the student-friendly approach being. The faculty has thus reached an important milestone on the way to establishing the new degree programme in the winter semester 2024/25
