Strategy of the Faculty of Business Studies and Economics
Our faculty strategy is the result of discussions within the faculty and with the university management. It ties in with the University's "Strategy 2018–2028," highlights the special features of our discipline, and identifies its own fields of action for the faculty.
Anti-Discrimination at the Faculty - We Take a Stand.
What is discrimination, and whom does it affect?
Discrimination, in the legal sense, refers to any unjustified, disparaging, and/or exclusionary unequal treatment of individuals based on certain characteristics (such as ethnic origin, gender, religion, belief, disability, age, or sexual orientation). Discrimination can occur either intentionally or unintentionally.
It must be clear that even if a statement or action was not intended to be discriminatory, it may still constitute discrimination.
The University of Bremen’s Anti-Discrimination Policy prohibits all forms of discriminatory behavior. In addition to the protected characteristics defined in the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG), the University of Bremen has defined further dimensions of diversity that are to be protected.
All professors, researchers, academic, technical and administrative staff, as well as all students at the Faculty of Business Studies and Economics contribute to a culture that is sensitive to discrimination by acting and treating one another in a non-discriminatory manner.
What values does the faculty stand for?
We commit ourselves to treating each other respectfully.
- We respect and protect people in all their diversity and individuality.
- We work to raise awareness - both within ourselves and among one another - of potentially discriminatory behavior and the conflicts that can arise from it. We also question and reflect on our own behavior.
- We are committed to treating one another with sensitivity - in our tone, our actions, and our collaboration.
We do not tolerate discrimination, disparagement, or abuse - regardless of who commits them or what form it takes.
- We do not accept insults, harassment, intimidation, denigration, bullying, torment, threats, or violence.
- There is no place for any of this at our faculty.
Through our daily actions, we foster a climate of acceptance and trust characterized by a fair, solidary, respectful, and diversity-sensitive way of interacting with one another.
- We are approachable: We pay attention and we listen. We address concerns openly. We foster a culture of openness and support.
- We act with respect and consideration: We take feedback seriously and follow up on it.
- We are attentive and supportive: We engage with one another as equals and continue to strengthen our awareness of diversity and discrimination.
